PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2018-present SEMIRETIRED, Helena, MT
Occasional writing and editing projects. Working on assembling A Regionalism That Travels: Writings on (Mostly) Montana Arts, 1975-2022, and my New & Selected Poems, 1974-2023 (title TBA). I’m also hard at work on a chronicle, both fictive and documentary, which investigates, plays with, and embroiders the stories of a family of Jewish ranchers and merchants who came to Helena in the mid-1860s (based upon my wife’s family), and a Scottish family who settled first in the Judith Basin and later near Belt (based upon my maternal grandparents’ family of upright Scots). The research for this chronicle has already been a joy, as I find wonderful and unexpected materials about Montana in the late 19th century, materials that, I hope, will expand, enrich, and complexify our view of our past and our present.
